The Columbus Chamber of Commerce awarded Webbed Marketing's CEO and founder, Bill Balderaz, with the Small Business Leader of the Year award. A panel of Chamber members voted to determine Balderaz the Small Business Leader of the Year, after he was nominated by an outside party. The award recognizes a prominent business leader for what they bring to the Columbus region and how they inspire others. According to the Chamber, Columbus is known for its spirit of entrepreneurship, and leaders like Balderaz contribute greatly to the local economy.
"Earning Small Business Leader of the Year was a tremendous honor for me, and my team at Webbed Marketing," Balderaz said. "At Webbed Marketing, we work hard to stay ahead of Internet marketing trends and this is demonstrated in the work we produce for our clients. This kind of recognition is fuel to keep up the innovative work we're doing for our clients every day."
Webbed Marketing also earned a nomination for the Business First of Columbus "Best Places to Work" award. Business First's Best Places to Work program recognizes the top companies in central Ohio based on workplace satisfaction surveys. Business First of Columbus featured an article on Webbed Marketing in its Friday, Nov. 13 edition.
The prestigious TechColumbus Innovation Awards will be announced in February 2010, and Webbed Marketing is nominated for Outstanding Startup Business and Outstanding Service. In addition, Amy Marshall, co-founder and CEO, is nominated for Outstanding Woman in Technology, and Balderaz is nominated for Executive of the Year.
Webbed Marketing also earned several MarCom awards from the Association of Marketing and Communication Professionals. Marketing practice tended to be seen as a creative industry in the past, which included advertising, distribution and selling. However, because the academic study of marketing makes extensive use of social sciences, psychology, sociology, mathematics, economics, anthropology and neuroscience, the profession is now widely recognized as a science, allowing numerous universities to offer Master-of-Science (MSc) programmes. The overall process starts with marketing research and goes through market segmentation, business planning and execution, ending with pre and post-sales promotional activities. It is also related to many of the creative arts. The marketing literature is also adept at re-inventing itself and its vocabulary according to the times and the culture.
